Irene Gardner Maria Stein native Irene L. Gardner, 65, of Dayton, died July 17, 2006, at Hospice of Dayton, following an illness. She was born Aug. 7, 1940, in Maria Stein, to Joseph and Rose Knob Berning. Her husband of 48 years, Johnny S. Gardner survives. Also surviving are a son, Eric J. (Jackie), of Mason; a brother, Urban (Lucy) Berning, Maria Stein; a sister, Velma (Andy) Hemmelgarn, St. Henry; and two grandchildren. Deceased are five brothers and sisters. She retired from Pickerel Shafer & Ebling Law Office, Dayton. She was a member of the Garden Club and Vandalia Senior Citizens. She was a former member of Polk Grove United Church of Christ and attended Stillwater United Methodist Church, Dayton. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Stillwater United Methodist Church, Dayton, the Revs. Duane Anders and Ron Hajarian officiating. Calling is after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. Richard J. Kaiser, 90, of Minster, died at 3:15 a.m. July 25, 2006, at Heritage Manor, Minster. He was ill for three months. He was born Jan 27, 1916, in Minster, to John and Elizabeth Nagel Kaiser. On Oct. 18, 1939, he married Emma Borchers, who died March 24, 2006. Survivors are two sons, John (Linda) and Ed (Jean), all of Minster; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was the last of his family. deceased are four sisters, Mathilda Tebbe, Hilda Goettemoeller, Henrietta Meyer and Clara Homan. He was a retired farmer and former treasurer of the Minster Area Life Squad. He was a member of the St. Augustine Church and its Men's Choir, Knights of Columbus Council 2158, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1391, Historical Society and Farm Burea, all of Minster. He was a former member of Minster Farmers Co-op Board of Directors. Funeral Mass is 9 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Rick Nieberding officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
