Valier Amstutz

Valier G. Amstutz, 75, of rural Berne, Ind., died at 3:50 p.m. Sept. 15, 2006, at Adams Memorial Hospital, Decatur, Ind.
   He was born Nov. 8, 1930, in Adams County, to Oswin and Esther Kneuss Amstutz. His first wife, Ethel Hass, died in 1970. In Dec. 1970, he married Ermal Hone McCourt, who survives.
   Also surviving are two sons, Randall (Kenda) and Brice (Kelly), all of Berne; a daughter, Janell (Joe A.) Schwartz, Berne; a stepdaughter, Betsy Gray, Berne; a brother, Keith, New Haven, Ind.; two sisters, Marlene Lines, New Haven, and Gyneth (Amos) Coblentz, Berne; and 14 grandchildren.
   He was founder and co-owner of Amstutz Construction, a farmer and a Wabash Township trustee. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving during the Korean War, and a member of First Missionary Church, Berne, where he served as a Sunday school teacher.
   Services were today at the church, the Revs. Kris McPherson and Tom Murphy officiated. Burial with military rites by American Legion Post 468 and 346, both of Berne, was at MRE Cemetery.
   Contributions can be made to Gideons International or the church missions.
   Arrangements were handled by Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, Berne.


Anthony DeMange

Anthony Thomas DeMange, son of Jacob and Alyssa Wehrkamp DeMange, 95 South Main St., North Star, was stillborn at 11:51 p.m. Sept. 11, 2006, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton.
   Also surviving are a twin brother, Emmit Thomas, at home; a sister, Alexa, also at home; grandparents, Leo and Linda Wehrkamp, North Star, and Ronald and Joan, Versailles; and great-grandparents, Mary Jean Wehrkamp, and Alvin and Rita Spraley, all of North Star, and Alice DeMange, Versailles.
   Graveside services are 6 p.m. today at St. Louis Cemetery, North Star, the Revs. James Schmitmeyer and David Zink officiating.
   Arrangements were handled by Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry.


Delores Leugers

Delores C. Leugers, 67, 1301 McFeely Petry Road, Fort Recovery, died at 2:35 p.m. Sept. 15, 2006, at her residence.
   She was born Aug. 12, 1939, in St. Anthony, to Urban and Cecilia Reichert Rauh. On June 24, 1961, she married Robert Leugers, who survives.
   Also surviving are five sons, Norman (Angie), St. Sebastian, Kevin (Amy), St. Henry, Dennis (Jill), Coldwater, David, St. Henry, and Ralph (Lisa), St. Anthony; six daughters, Susan (Tim) Moorman, Coldwater, Teresa, Miami, Fla., Barbara (Imari) Jackson, Fort Benning, Ga.; Bridget (Brad) Canter, Mayfield, Ky., Laura (Jeremy) Link, Cassella, and Michelle, Columbus; two brothers, John Rauh, St. Marys, and Mark (Deb) Rauh, St. Anthony; and 19 grandchildren.
   Deceased are a son, Duane; a brother, Carl Rauh; and a granddaughter.
   She was a 1957 graduate of Coldwater High School and was a 4-H advisor for 33 years with Jackson Friendship 4-H Club. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Sharpsburg, and its altar sodality.
   Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Charles Mullen officiating. Burial is at St. Paul Cemetery, Fort Recovery.
   Calling is 2-8 p.m. today and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery.

Faye Miller

Faye E. Miller, 88, 3181 Mud Pike, Celina, died at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 17, 2006, at her residence.
   Arrangements are pending at Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home, Celina.


Richard Miller

Richard P. Miller, 74, 1035 Fort Recovery-Minster Road, Fort Recovery, died at 2:40 a.m. Sept. 17, 2006, at his residence.
   He was born Aug. 23, 1932, in Dayton, to William J. and Olivia Schoen Miller. On Feb. 4, 1961, he married Viola Wenning Miller, who survives.
   Also surviving are four daughters, Darlene (Cy) Pottkotter, Fort Recovery, Miriam (Todd) Bantz, Victorville, Calif., Sharon (Jerry) Roberts, Xenia, and Dee (Mike) Marchal, Portland, Ind.; five brothers, Gerald (Mary Ann), Decatur, Ind., Tom, of Bryan, James (Ann), Hicksville, Donald (Mary), St. Henry, and Mark (Marcia), Coldwater; three sisters, Arleen Miller, New Corydon, Ind., Imogene (James) Wilder, Decatur, and Betty (Robert) Hemmelgarn, Burkettsville; and 6 grandchildren.
   Deceased is a brother-in-law, Gerald.
   He delivered milk for the former Dairy Maid, Greenville; and formerly owned and operated Millers Dairy Drive In and the former Rich & Vi's Carry-Out. He also was employed by Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home and retired from the post office, all of Fort Recovery. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War.
   He was a member of American Legion post 345, Veterans of Foreign Wars post 6515, Knights of Columbus Council 3324 and Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, all of Fort Recovery.
   Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Revs. Charles Mullen and Paul Wohlwend officiating. Burial is at St. Marys Cemetery, Fort Recovery.
   Calling is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery. A Knights of Columbus prayer service will be held at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Eugene Pontsler

H. Eugene Pontsler, 76, of Rockford, died Sept. 15, 2006, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind., where he had been a patient two days.
   He was born Nov. 27, 1929, in Mercer County, to Charles William and Grace H. Sharp Pontsler. On Feb. 10, 1951, he married Vivian K. Heppeard, who died Nov. 29, 1995.
   Surviving are three sons, Gary (Kathy), Willshire; Rick and Greg (Jamie), all of Rockford; a daughter, Linda, Celina; five brothers, Stanley (Marcella), Ohio City; Vernon (Shirley) and Lee (Londa), all of Van Wert, Don (Ethel), Rockford, and Glenn (Marcile), Buford, Ga.; a sister, Wanda Wenner, Ohio City; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
   He retired as an auto mechanic in 1994 from Reineke-Mitchell, Inc., Celina, and previously worked at Lloyd Motor Sales and Riley Chevrolet, both in Rockford. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War, and was a member of the Glenn D. Eckhart post 508 American Legion, Rockford.
   Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, the Rev. Mark Rutledge officiating. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Rockford American Legion.
   Calling is 2-8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Anthony Reis

St. Marys native W.R. Anthony Reis, 30, of rural Berne, Ind., died Sept. 14, 2006, at his residence of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
   He was born April 30, 1976, in St. Marys. His mother and stepfather, Regina and Mark Springer survive in Mendon. On April 23, 2004, he married Sarah M. McCurry, who survives.
   Also surviving are two sons, Maurice, at home, and Zach, Celina; a daughter, Katlyn, Celina; two stepsons, David and Dustin, both of Celina; a stepdaughter, Sierra McCurry, at home; a sister, Katrina (Mike) Mullholand, Mendon; a stepbrother, Jeffery Springer, Greenville; a mother-in-law, Mary Carroll, Montezuma, and a father-in-law, Joe Curry, Rockford.
   He was self-employed in construction and transported many Amish workers in the Berne area. He was a 1994 graduate of the C. Arthur Wilson High School, Columbus.
   Services are 7 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys.
   Calling is after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.


Judy Wolf

Judy Wolf, 67, of Coldwater, died Sept. 17, 2006, at The Gardens at Celina.
   Arrangements are pending at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
