Elizabeth Flaler

Elizabeth Margaret Sherman Flaler, 95, of Raleigh, N.C., a former Celina and Coldwater resident, died Jan. 17, 2005, at Mayview Convalescent Center in Raleigh.
   She was born July 14, 1909, near Portland, Ind.
  Her husband, Zoyd M. Flaler, a former Mercer County surveyor, died Nov. 7, 1999.
   Surviving are a daughter, Martha (John) Avant, Raleigh; two sisters-in-law including Ruth Flaler Theurer, Portland; and two grandchildren.
   Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Raleigh, had charge of arrangements. Burial will take place later at Fort Recovery.


Shirley Fleck

Shirley Ann Fleck, 52, 3560 Harrison Road, Chickasaw, died at 7 a.m. Jan. 20, 2005, at Midwest Regional Cancer Treatment Center in Zion, Ill. She had battled cancer for more than 10 years.
   She was born March 19, 1952, in Greenville, to Ralph E. and Velma P. Schlarman Magoteaux. Her mother survives in Osgood. On July 15, 1972, she married Paul Fleck who survives.
   Also surviving are three sons, Matt (Jodi) of Dayton, Ryan and Bradley, both of Chickasaw; three daughters, Jill (Mark) Burd, Anna, Jodi (Jason) Knouff, Montezuma, and Jenny (Chad) Brunswick, Chickasaw; four sisters, Marcia (Dave) Muhlenkamp, Coldwater, Janice (Jim) Browning, Troy, Mary (Mike) Hall, Columbus, and Karen (Ed) Bishop, North Carolina; and nine grandchildren.
   She was a homemaker.
   Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Grace Missionary Church, Celina, with John Reed officiating. Burial will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery.
   Calling is 2-8 p.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater, and 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the church.
   Contributions can be made to the Cancer Association of Mercer County.


Emma Hackett

Minster native Emma Hackett, 90, formerly of Troy and Lynchburg, Va., died at 2:13 p.m. Jan. 20, 2005, at the Maria Joseph Home, Dayton.
   She was born April 27, 1914, in Minster, to Frank and Louisa Steinneman Schmuecker. On Sept. 23, 1947, she married Thomas E. Hackett who died in 1983.
   Surviving are two sons, Tom (Diane) of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Jim of the Philippine Islands; a daughter, Kay of Dayton; and six grandchildren.
   Deceased are a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Jane Schmuecker, and a sister, Marie Schmuecker.
   She was a former member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Troy, and St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster.
   Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Monday at the Minster church, the Rev. Louis Schmit officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
   Calling is 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.


Virginia Zumberge

Virginia Loree Zumberge, 80, 6612 Meyer Road, Celina, died at 10:10 a.m. Jan. 20, 2005, at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater.
   She was born June 3, 1924, near Erastus, to Forest and Loree Kugel Kittle. On June 11, 1949, she married John H. Zumberge who survives.
   Also surviving are three sons, Charles, Stephen (Virginia) and Michael (Cheryl), all of Celina; three daughters, Loree (Scott) Nicodemus, Covington, Theresa of St. Marys and Jennifer of Celina; two brothers, Leonard (Martha Lou) Kittle and Murrel Kittle, all of Celina; three sisters, Helen Henkle, Coldwater, Geri (Phil) Fishbaugh, Spencerville, and Mary Ann Kittle, Celina; a brother-in-law, Jim Andres, Celina; a sister-in-law, Ruth Kittle, Celina; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
   Deceased are a brother, Pete Kittle; two sisters, Blanche Andres and Carolyn Sue Sloan; and two grandsons.
   She was a homemaker who previously worked as a dental technician and as a beautician at the former Lombard's Beauty Shop in Celina. She served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II, graduated from Celina High School and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina.
   Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Richard R. Riedel officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Celina.
   Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and 9:15-10:15 a.m. Monday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina.
   Contributions can be made to the Immaculate Conception Education Endowment Fund.
