Albert Buening

Albert J. Buening, 77, 809 West Vine St., Coldwater, died at 1:19 a.m. June 18, 2006 at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
   He was born March 11, 1929, in Coldwater, to Bernard J. and Julianna Bruggeman Buening. On July 4, 1953, he married Betty Jane Ahlers, who survives at home.
   Survivors include, a son, Joseph, Coldwater; four daughters, Linda (Ron) Schoenlein, Cassella, Sharon (Luke) Timmerman, Connie (Joseph) Wenning, all of Coldwater, Angela (Jason) Gable, Sylvania; five brothers, Ernest (Dorothy), Urban (Rita), Gregor (Helen), all of Coldwater, Roman (Norma), Maria Stein, Paul (Juanita), St. Henry; two sisters, Mary (Robert) DeMange, Ansonia, Marita (Tony) Grilliot, Celina; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
   Deceased are two brothers, Louis and Clarence.
   He was retired from Reynolds & Reynolds, Celina, a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater, Knights of Columbus Council 1991 and Fraternal Order of Eagles # 3025, both of Coldwater.
   Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Ronald Wilker officiating. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater where military services will be conducted.
   Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.

Carole Howell

Former New Bremen resident Carole R. DuBois Gruebmeyer Howell, 82, of Wapakoneta, died June 14, 2006.
   She was born January 20, 1924, near Wapokenta, to Milton and Agnes McCullough DuBois. On March 16, 1946, she married Robert Gruebmeyer, who died August 22, 1972. She then married Dallas Howell, who died March 28, 2006.
   Survivors include a son, Dennis (Jane) Gruebmeyer, New Bremen; two daughters, Gail (Allen) Mescher, Minster, Diane (Greg) Gast, New Bremen; a sister, Helen Tangeman, New Bremen; two step-sons; six grandchildren; and 12 -great grandchildren.
   Deceased are four brothers, Donald, Warren, James and Richard DuBois.
   She was retired from Crown Equipment Corp., New Bremen. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church, Wapakoneta.
   A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. June 24 at Faith Alliance Church, New Bremen with the Rev. Dean Greenwood officiating. Burial was held at Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta. Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, is handling the arrangements.


Laverta Joyce

Former New Bremen resident Laverta M. Joyce, 74, died 9:37 a.m. June 19, 2006 at her home in Sidney.
   She was born July 31, 1931, in New Bremen, to Clarence and Luetta Dammeyer Roettger. On July 15, 1950, she married Harry Joyce, who died September 5, 1992.
   Survivors include, a son, Gary (Kay), Sidney; three daughters, Teresa Joyce, Denise Joyce, all of Sidney, Debora (David) Wilson, Westerville; a brother, Orrin Roettger, Wapakoneta; two sisters, Marie Neuman, Sidney, Lucille Rumpf, St. Marys; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
   Deceased are a son, Robert; a brother, Norbert Roettger; and a sister, Catherine Dingledine.
   She had worked at the former Woolen Mills in New Bremen, Coppus Foods, Minster, and the Goodyear Tire Company, St. Marys. She and her husband owned and operated the former Joyce's Bakery, New Bremen. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, New Bremen.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen with the Rev. John W. Tostrick officiating. Burial will follow at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
   Calling is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Thomas Wagner

Thomas "Tom" J. Wagner, 62, Yorktown, Ind., died June 17, 2006, at his home following a brief illness.
   He was born June 29, 1943, in Bryant, Ind., to Ray and Veronica Minch Wagner.
   Surviviors include, three daughters, Lorrie Carey, Debbie Atkinson, Mindy (Brad) Beard, all of Muncie, Ind.; five brothers; Mathias "Bip" (Dorothy), Kettering, Lou (Jeanette), Pleasant Hill, Jim (Margaret), Lake Panasofski, Fla., Donald (Janet), Portland, Ind., Ed (Sue), Celina; eight sisters, Marie Remaklus, Coldwater, Betty Laux, Bryant, Ind., Barbara (Walter) Weigel, Coldwater, Trudy (Bruce) Poling, West Milton, Ruth (Dick) Houser, Bryant, Ind., Gini (Roland) Chacon, Land O' Lakes, Fla., Connie Lehman, Coldwater, Judy ( Perry) Miller, Union City, Ind.; and four grandchildren.
   Deceased are, a son, Basil; two brothers, John and Ralph, three brothers-in-law, Bob Remaklus, Joe Laux, and Jim Lehman.
   Services are 1 p.m. Friday at St. Francis of Assisi, Muncie, Ind. with the Rev. John Kiefer officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Ridge Memorial Park, Muncie, Ind.
   He was retired from ABB, formerly Westinghouse, after 36 years of service and Borg-Warner Automotive, both in Muncie, Ind. He was a graduate of Christy Trade School, Chicago, Ill., and Ball State University, Muncie, Ind.
   Calling is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and one hour before the service Friday at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, Muncie, Ind.
