Leo Schmidt
Leo W. Schmidt, 88, Vandalia, died Feb. 5, 2007, at Hospice of Dayton.
He was born May 15, 1918, in Yorkshire, to John and Elizabeth Sturwold Schmidt. On June 18, 1946, he married Marie Mescher, who survives.
Other survivors are four sons, Robert (Marge), Tipp City, Ron and Virgil, Vandalia, and Mike (Cheral), Pearland, Texas; three daughters, Patricia and Susan, and Barbara (John) Ross (all addresses unavailable); a brother, Ray (Viola), Yorkshire; two sisters, Henrietta (Sam) Doseck, Fort Loramie, and Adella Henke, Versailles; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Lawrence; a sister-in-law, Ruth; and a brother-in-law, Julius Henke.
He retired after 35 years from Frigidaire (GM) and was a substitute teacher for Montgomery County Joint Vocational School in machine trades. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Air Corp 18th Repair Squadron in World War II and a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, Vandalia.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Robert Monnin officiating. Burial is at Forest Hills Cemetery, Vandalia.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
