Clarence Weitzel
Clarence A. Weitzel, 89, 2687 Mercer-Darke County Line Road, Fort Recovery, died at 9:10 a.m. June 10, 2007, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
He was born April 22, 1918, in Fort Recovery, to Philip and Elizabeth Schmitz Weitzel. On Sept. 2, 1944, he married Regina Mary Nieport, who died May 14, 1977.
Surviving are four sons, Gerald (Thelma), Coldwater, Irvan (Carol), Celina, Philip (Marge), Cranberry, and Karl, West Manchester; nine daughters, Vercy (Jim) Stachler, Rossburg, Elaine (Bob) Rosenbeck and Lois (Charles) Selhorst, all of Coldwater, Diana (Jim) Grilliot, Versailles, Ellen (Willard) Evers, Karen (Ronald E.) Hartings and Becky (Paul) Hartings, all of St. Rose, Bernice (Patrick) Sudhoff, St. Anthony, and Kathy (Mike) Poeppelman, Fort Loramie; two sisters, Mary (Ben) Holthaus, McCartyville, and Agnes (Ben) Lefeld, St. Henry; a brother-in-law, Joe Nieport, St. Henry; a sister-in-law, Alberta, Sharpsburg; 46 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Raymond and Albert; five sisters, Martha Hemmelgarn, Ann Ross, Rita Hartke, Julitta Reichert and Gertrude Nieport; and four grandchildren.
He worked at the former New Idea plant in Coldwater, the Union City (Indiana) Body Company and was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Sharpsburg, and its Men's Society, and the Knights of Columbus Council 3324, Fort Recovery.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Dorn officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10:15 a.m. Wednesday at Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery. A Knights of Columbus prayer service will be held at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
