A day to remember
Photo by Mark Pummell/The Daily Standard

Mendon resident Bob Nolan stands amid the flags he helped place in honor of Flag Day near the Union Township Memorial to local soldiers who served during the Civil War. National Flag Day is celebrated on June 14 to commemorate the adoption of the United States by the Second Continental Congress in 1777. It was proclaimed Flag Day in 1916 by President Woodrow Wilson and declared so by an Act of Congress in 1949.
