Norman Slavik
Norman R. "Rick" Slavik II, 61, of 6364 state Route 219, Celina, died at 1 p.m. Aug. 10, 2008, at Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus. Death was due to a sudden illness.
He was born Jan. 26, 1947, in Celina, to Norman R. Slavik and Helen Grenzebach Slavik-Peck. His mother survives in St. Marys. On November 22, 1990, he married Jane Kuck, who survives.
Other survivors are a son, Matt (Lindsay), Celina; three daughters, Amy Slavik of Columbus, Beth (Aaron) Carstens, Dayton, and Megan Slavik of Chicago, Ill.; two stepsons, Jerry (Lucy) Merges, New Knoxville, and Doug (LoriAnn) Merges, Parma, Idaho; two stepdaughters, Laurie Campbell, Lakewood, and Samantha (Andy) Fitz, Avon Lake; a brother, Tom (Rosa), Damascus, Va.; four sisters, Susan (Mark) Slavik-Chenven, and Betsy (Jonathon) Johnson, all of San Diego, Calif., Barbara Slavik, Port Angeles, Wash., and Jane (Gary) Margolis, Mahopac, N.Y.; and 13 grandchildren.
He was a 1964 graduate of Coldwater High School, a 1972 graduate of The Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine and a veterinarian and partner in Coldwater Animal Clinic. He was president of the Lakefield Airport Authority, past president and current board member of the Ohio Aviation Association and a member of the Mercer County Republican Central Committee.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at N.J. Hogenkamp & Sons Funeral Home, Coldwater, the Rev. Sharon A. Showman officiating.
Calling is 2-8 p.m Thursday, and one hour prior to service on Friday at the funeral home.
Contributions can be made to Animal Protection League, Celina, or a scholarship fund to be set up for a veterinary science major.
