Now with a cross
Photo by Shelley Grieshop/The Daily Standard
Pictured is the new steeple at the top St. Peter's Conservative Congregational Christian Church in New Bremen, which was built in the 1800s. The steeple recently was dismantled and stripped down to its wood frame with slate shingles and copper sheathing applied. The work, which began in the spring, cost about $57,000 and was paid through donations and church funds. However, the steeple has not had a cross at its tip since the 1970s. Now, a new 6-foot-tall gold-plated stainless steel cross graces the steeple.
