John Murphy
John Frederick Murphy, 83, 522 Schunck Road, Celina, died at 10:20 a.m. Sept. 6, 2008, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
He was born Dec. 22, 1924, in Jay County, Ind., to James and Pearl Henry Murphy. His parents and stepfather, Pernal Caplinger, are deceased. On Aug. 24, 1946, he married Doris Maxine Manning, who died Dec. 18, 2006.
Survivors are two daughters, Rita (Ray) Feltz, Celina, and Teresa (Roger) Steinbrunner, St. Henry; a stepbrother, Dick (Louise) Caplinger, Texarkana, Texas; and seven grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Thorton and James; two infant sisters, Mary and Marcella; and a grandson.
He worked at the former Mersman Brothers factory, Celina, and retired after 42 years at the former Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys. A U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, he served with the 596th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion Company A. He attended the former Immaculate Conception High School, Celina, and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1800 and the American Legion, all of Celina.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Richard Riedel officiating. Burial is at Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9:15-10:15 a.m. Thursday at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home, Celina.
