Canoers paddle Grand Lake
Choppy water makes for some thrills and spills

Though three boats had to be towed in and the kayak carrying the organizer of the event sunk in choppy water, the first organized canoe paddle on Grand Lake was a wet, yet successful event.
The Friday morning event was organized by Laura Walker, coordinator of the Grand Lake/Wabash Watershed Alliance, to show the public special features of the lake, such as its wildlife, and to highlight lake activities related to the watershed action plan. [More]

Minster is off to a 5-1 start

MINSTER - When the Versailles Tigers played their first-ever game in the Midwest Athletic Conference back in 2001, they were defeated by the Minster Wildcats by a score of 14-13 when Versailles missed the would-be tying extra point.
History repeated itself as Versailles' attempted fourth-quarter tying PAT kick sailed wide left and gave Minster its fifth victory of the season by that same 14-13 score. [More]

Costly salt to be used sparingly this winter
Road crews across the area already have a message for winter drivers: "Be extra careful this year."
Road salt and salt mixtures will be used sparingly across the Grand Lake area this winter due to the current high cost of the mineral. In some cases, the price per ton has more than tripled.
