Southerly winds will increase today ahead of an approaching cold front. Sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph can be expected with gusts of 35 to 45 mph at times this afternoon. Be sure to secure outdoor objects.

Vernon Raymond Jr.
Vernon E. Raymond Jr., 61, 127 Marbello Court, St. Marys, died at 8 p.m. July 1, 2009, at Toledo Hospital, from injuries sustained in a car-bicycle accident near Bowling Green on June 23, 2009. He was participating in the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure at the time of the crash.
He was born July 12, 1947, in Celina to Vernon Sr. and Dorothy Williams Raymond. On July 8, 1972, he married Kathy Heaps, who survives.
Other survivors are a son, Jeff Raymond, St. Marys; a daughter, Annie Raymond, San Diego, Calif.; siblings, Jean (Fred) Waesch, Celina, Mary Jo (Tom) Walter, Joyce (Chuck) Greenawalt, Kate (Gary) James, and Donald (Karen) Raymond, all of St. Marys, and Michael (Gina) Raymond, Decatur, Ind.; a stepmother, Ruth Raymond, St. Marys; a brother-in-law, John Steven Heaps, Lima, stepsiblings, Jill (John) Bowers, St. Marys, Jack (Karen) Hollman, Waynesfield, Jim (Darlene) Hollman, St. Marys, and Joy (Steve) Sibold, St. Marys.
He retired from the former Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, St. Marys, where he had been an engineer. He graduated in 1966 from St. Marys Memorial High School and later from Wright State University. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, St. Marys, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Vietnam-era in Korea. He coached Little League baseball and YMCA basketball, and was a member of the Memorial High School and WSU Alumni Associations, and the Idlewild Men's Club, all of St. Marys.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at the church, the very Rev. Dr. David Williams officiating. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 1-7 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, and 9:30-11 a.m. Monday at the church.
Contributions can be made to the Charles Greenawalt Scholarship fund, Thomas Howard Scholarship Fund, the Joint Township Hospital Foundation Parkinson's Fund or the church.
