Tears flowed in Celina Municipal Court last week as a 25-year-old area man learned his fate in connection with a Sept. 15 traffic accident that claimed the life of a newlywed.
Douglas M. Heitkamp, 6215 Depweg Road, Celina, who earlier pleaded no contest to one count of vehicular homicide, received a $500 fine and an 18-month operator's license suspension. [More]
Local officials make changes in response to shrinking state funds

ST. MARYS - The community library will be closed on Fridays and the entire staff will take a 12 percent pay cut beginning next week due to a 30 percent cut in state funding for the next two years.
"It's already been a tough year," said Susan Heckler Pittman, executive director of the St. Marys Community Public Library. "We've already cut book and materials purchases. All that was left was the staff."
Each staff member's workweek has been cut by five hours in addition to the Friday closing. [More]

An ordinance to use eminent domain proceedings to acquire the former Versa Pak property was tabled by Celina City Council members during a Monday night meeting.
The city of Celina has entered into a lease agreement with Norfolk Southern Railway Company to lease a piece of property adjacent to the railroad tracks in the 400 block of South Ash Street.
