Fire damage
Photo by Mark Pummell/The Daily Standard

What remains of Rumors at the Lake restaurant on state Route 219 near Montezuma is torn down Tuesday. An early morning fire destroyed the newly-remodeled eatery on Sept. 24, 2009. For years the business had been known as Doc's Inn and then Andy's Roadhouse before Maria Stein couple Mike and Angie Staugler bought it, fixed it up and reopened it as Rumors the middle of last year. The Division of State Fire Marshal ruled the fire as undetermined, as investigators could not rule out certain accidental or intentional causes, public information officer Shane Cartmill said this morning. No one was injured in the fire which originated in a rear storage room.
