Several declarations of candidacy and local issues were filed Thursday with the Mercer County Board of Elections, the deadline for the primary election May 4. Write-in candidates for the primary have until March 3 to file, and non-partisan candidates running in November have until Aug. 19.

Mercer County Auditor Mark Giesige on Thursday announced he would not seek a fifth term in office.
Giesige - who has served as auditor for more than 17 years - will finish out his current term, which expires March 2011.

An 80-year-old Versailles man was injured Thursday when his SUV collided with a train on state Route 47 east of the village of Versailles.
