A local telephone company was awarded $4.3 million to expand broadband (high-speed) service in the Fort Recovery area.
Wabash Mutual Telephone Co. was the largest recipient of the nearly $10 million awarded to three Ohio broadband service providers. A caravan of marked cruisers left the Mercer County Jail early Sunday carrying 24 inmates from the old building that served the area since 1939.
The inmates and their sack lunches were taken to the Auglaize County Jail to allow the public to tour the former jail, as well as the new Mercer County Adult Detention Center which has been home to the sheriff's office since early January. [More]
PAULDING - The Celina Bulldogs used a solid defensive effort and great shooting to post a 56-45 win in Division II district semifinal action over the Napoleon Wildcats on Thursday night at Paulding High School.
With the win, the Bulldogs take a 17-7 record to the district final game on Saturday night at 7 p.m. against the Wauseon Indians (20-3), who defeated the Bath Wildkittens, 60-51, in the other semifinal game on Thursday evening. [More]

Police search Celina Middle School after bomb threat
A bomb threat inscribed on a bathroom wall of the Celina Middle School was discovered by school administrators Thursday afternoon, and prompted a search of the building after students were released at the normal time.
Ohio and other areas of the Corn Belt are seeing unusually high levels of vomitoxin in corn, and this area is no exception.
The toxin is produced by a fungus that grows on corn in cool, wet weather. It reduces market price and can cause livestock, especially hogs, to eat less.
