Edward Kriegel
Edward J. Kriegel, 93, Celina, died at 4:10 a.m. April 8, 2010, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
He was born Dec. 11, 1916, in Toledo to John and Susan Muller Kriegel. On June 14, 1947, he married Gertrude A. Gast, who died May 25, 1961. On Oct. 31, 1969, he married Mary A. Muhlenkamp Wagner, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, John (Betty) Kriegel, Troy, Mich., Charles (Linda) Kriegel, West Carrollton, and William (Bea) Kriegel, Celina; one daughter, Charlene (Greg Carttar) Harner, Branson, Mo.; three stepsons, James (Susan) Wagner, Bob (Marg) Wagner and David (Diane) Wagner, all of Celina; two stepdaughters, Betty (Mike) Heckler, Coldwater, and Nancy (Joe) Nerderman, Albuquerque, N.M.; nine grandchildren, 18 stepgrandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Ralph and Robert Kriegel; eight sisters, Ruby Weiman, Minnie Schwieterman, Leona Davidson, Edna Edmiston, Esther Glossett, Mildred Rice, Mary Heyne and Jeanette Martin; and a grandchild.
He had worked at the Mersman Furniture Factory in Celina, retired from the Celina Post Office where he was a letter carrier and clerk, and worked at the State Store in Celina. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, where he was a member of the church choir. He also served as Eucharistic Minister, ministered the homebound of the church and was a member and president of the church's Holy Name Society. He was a 1937 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant with the 91st Bombardment Group at Basingborn Air Base in England. He also was a member of the Celina Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5713, the Celina American Legion Post 210, and was a member and Grand Knight of Celina Knights of Columbus Council 1800.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Richard Riedel officiating. Burial will be at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Celina.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Monday and 9:15-10:15 a.m. Tuesday at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina. A prayer service will be held by the Celina Knights of Columbus, Celina American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars on Monday evening at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to the Immaculate Conception Education Endowment Fund.
