Alfred Schott
Alfred W. Schott, 83, Rockford, died at 8:24 a.m. Jan. 11, 2011, at the Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert.
He was born Aug. 28, 1927, in Mercer County to Frederick W. and Wilhemina Emerick Schott. On March 19, 1946, he married Barbara L. Mathews, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Alan (Dianne) Schott, Willshire, Barry Schott, Atlanta, Ga., and Kelly Schott, Ohio City; two daughters, Sharon (Steve) Murphy, Blytheville, Ark., and Traci Schott, Fort Wayne, Ind.; a sister, Irene Herron, St. Henry; two brothers, Paul (June) Schott, New Bremen, and Dale (Mary) Schott, Fort Wayne, Ind.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Deceased are three sisters, Anna Lee Schlechte, Ruth Edwards and Leah Smith; and four brothers, Clarence, Glenn, Mike and Ray Schott.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Schumm. He was a carpenter and also worked for International Harvester in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he was a trouble shooter for new truck production. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in Europe during World War II.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Jeff Patterson officiating. Burial with military graveside honors by Homer Pierson Post 207 is at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Schumm.
Calling is 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Friday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Ind., and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the church, the Concordia Theological Seminary or the donor's choosing.
