LeRoy Kiehl
LeRoy J. Kiehl, 92, Ohio City, died at 4:10 a.m. April 23, 2011, at Van Wert County Hospital.
He was born Oct. 6, 1918, in Harrison Township, Van Wert, to Theodore J. and Eleanora Feldner Kiehl. On Nov. 29, 1939, he married Ireta Louise Elder, who died Jan. 10, 1994.
Surviving are a son, Michael L. Kiehl, St. Marys; a daughter, Sharon A. (Thomas C.) Witten, Van Wert; a brother, Herbert T. (Donna) Kiehl, Grover Hill; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Voltz, Ohio City, and Helen Kiehl, Van Wert; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Gerald Eugene Kiehl, and a great-grandson.
He was employed by Weck Tile Mill and later by Countrymark, Inc., in management and sales for 42 years. He was a 1936 graduate of Wren High School and a member of American Legion Post 346 in Ohio City, Van Wert County Farm Bureau since 1939, Pleasant Grange since 1951, Eureka Lodge 592 in Ohio City and the Hyler Chapter, Order of Eastern Star 432. He was a member of St. Pauls Reformed Church in America, having served as elder and president of the council.
He served in World War II with the U.S. Army and spent 12 months in the occupation of Japan.
Service is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Ron Fruth officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church building fund, St. Paul's RCA or Van Wert YWCA.
