At 441 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located over New Bremen, moving northeast at 30 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 45 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Hail may cause minor damage to vegetation. Locations impacted include... Wapakoneta, St. Marys, New Bremen, Minster, Botkins, New Knoxville, Moulton, Kettlersville, Fryburg, and Lake Loramie State Park. This includes I-75 in Ohio between mile markers 102 and 110. GRAND LAKE - Ohio Department of Health (ODH) officials say it's likely that toxins in Grand Lake sickened a fisherman in May.
It is the only illness in Ohio this year out of nine reported statewide that has a likely link to algae toxins, according to ODH. The case recently was categorized as "probable" after having laboratory documentation confirming a harmful level of algae toxin was in the water when the victim was exposed. [More]
WAPAKONETA - A new initiative has county officials working to cut costs by sharing services between commissioners, township trustees and school districts.
After passage of the state budget this summer, Congress passed House Bill 153, which in part allows educational service centers to enter into shared service contracts with "any other political subdivision of the state" to save money. [More]
NEW BREMEN - With an Oct. 1 deadline looming, New Bremen Village Council learned Tuesday night that medical insurance premiums will increase dramatically.
Randee Henson of Stolly Insurance, which administers the village's current Anthem plan, pegged the increases in the range of nearly 23 to 41 percent. [More]
