Virgil Hudson
Virgil D. Hudson, 96, St. Marys, died at 5:50 p.m. Oct. 21, 2011, at Golden Living Center-Valley, St. Marys.
He was born Jan. 23, 1915, in rural Auglaize County, to Albert and Louise Hoewischer Hudson. On May 9, 1948, he married Esther G. Prueter, who died Nov. 15, 1975.
Surviving are a daughter Connie Sue (Gilbert "Gib") Backlund, Flat Rock, N.C.; and a sister, Betty Sondergelt, Springfield.
Deceased are brothers, Elijah "Lige" Hudson, Paul Hudson and Sylvanus "Bane" Hudson.
He was a 1932 graduate of Memorial High School, St. Marys, and a member of Wayne Street United Methodist Church, where he served as usher. He was president of Methodist Brotherhood.
He was a lifelong farmer with his brother Paul. He was recognized by St. Marys Township Trustees for his dedicated service as an active volunteer with township government for more than 30 years. He chaired the township zoning board of adjustments. He also was a volunteer with the St. Marys Township Fire Department as a dispatcher.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys.
