Adrian Settlage
Adrian R. Settlage, 89, of New Knoxville, died suddenly at 4:20 p.m. Dec. 12, 2011, in the emergency department of Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born June 27, 1922, on the farm where he resided, to William and Ida Wellman Settlage.
On March 6, 1948, he married Martha Maneke, who survives.
Also surviving are seven children, Patricia (Richard) Isbell of Magnolia, Texas, Linda (Mike) Forrest of Westerville, Janice (Chris) Speckman, John A. Settlage, Lois (James) Harrod and Christine (Harry) Gabel, all of New Knoxville, and Matthew (Christine) Settlage, St. Marys; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A brother, Rufus Settlage, and a sister, Ruth Bambauer, are deceased.
He was a 1940 graduate of New Knoxville High School and retired from farming and from Hoge Lumber Company, New Knoxville. He later worked at Vanderhorst Wholesale in St. Marys. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served from 1942 to 1945 with the Eighth and Ninth Division in the European Theater and saw duty in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, France, Belgium and Germany.
  He was a member of First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, where he had served for many years as a Sunday School teacher, elder, deacon and Sunday School superintendent. He was a member of New Knoxville American Legion Post 444.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Chuck Moeller officiating. Burial with full military rites by the American Legion will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, New Knoxville.
Calling is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the ministry center at church.
Contributions may be made to the church or the New Knoxville Historical Society.
Vornholt-Miller Funeral Home, New Knoxville, has charge of arrangements.
