Robert Cardy
Robert W. Cardy, 75, formerly of Reading, Pa., died Aug. 21, 2012, at his home in Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was born Aug. 28, 1936, to Willard and Doris Kelly Cardy. He was married 48 years to Celina native Judith Menchhofer, who survives.
Also surviving are two children, David Cardy, Westlake, and Susan (Barry) Kanpol, Fort Wayne; a sister, Marian Kerecman, Johnstown; and six grandchildren.
Deceased is a sister, June Miller.
He received his degree from the University of Cincinnati and an honorary doctoral degree from Piedmont College. He also is an honorary alumnus of Penn State University.
He worked at Carpenter Technology Corporation for 39 years, retiring as chairman and CEO in 2001. He served as chairman of Berks County Community Foundation, Children's Home of Reading, Manufacturer's Association of Berks County, Berks Business Executive Forum, Berks County Workforce Investment Board, Penn State University-Berks/Lehigh Valley, and United Way of Berks County.
He also served on numerous boards and led many capital campaigns for non-profit organizations. He was the vice chairman for the Specialty Steel Industry of North America and was on the board of directors for Pennsylvanians for Effective Government and Pennsylvania Business Roundtable.
In 2005, he and his wife moved to Fort Wayne, where he was a member of Emmanuel Community Church and served on the Board of Directors of Park Place Senior Living.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Calling is 4-7 p.m. Friday at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, Fort Wayne.
