Louis Gross
Louis R. Gross, 92, Coldwater, died Nov. 22, 2012, at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater.
He was born Nov. 27, 1919, in Coldwater to Adam and Catherine Braun Gross. On July 30, 1949, he married Flora Jane Ogden, who died June 10, 1981.
Surviving are five children, Rob (Marie) Gross, Coldwater, Tom (Jane) Gross, Coldwater, Garry (Karen) Gross, Tipp City, Marge (Sam) Kahlig, Coldwater, and Gail (Craig) Garrity, Celina; a brother, Vincent (Alfreda) Gross, Coldwater; two sisters, Rita Heyne, Russia, and Mary Ann Severt, Coldwater; a brother-in-law, Jim Bonifas, Coldwater; two sisters-in-law, Blanche Gross, Coldwater, and Claire (Don) Ansberry, Trenton; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Also deceased are a son, John Gross, and siblings and in-laws, Herb and Madonna Gross, Clarence and Becky Gross, Cyril and Bertie Gross, Eugene Gross, Viola Bonifas, Bob Heyne, Alvin Severt, John Richard Ogden and Homer Ogden Jr.
He belonged to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Disabled Veterans of Mercer County, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Coldwater, and the Mercer County Park Board. He was a former member of the Coldwater Fire Department. He also served on the 727th Amphibian Tractor Battalion during WWII and was the current president of their association.
He started Gross's Furniture and Floor Covering, Coldwater, in 1953.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial with military rites will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Calling is 2-7 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
