Harvest begins

A farmer harvests soybeans Wednesday on state Route 197, northeast of Celina. Farmers have started taking off soybeans - about 10 days earlier than normal - said Chris Gibbs, executive director of the Mercer County Farm Service Agency. The FSA office has not received reports of any corn for grain being harvested, he said. Corn silage harvest is almost complete with tonnage this year far surpassing last year's, Gibbs said. It will take about 10 more days before local ag officials are able to start gauging yield amounts and quality, he added.
