Frank Beams
Celina native Frank Lionel Beams, 77, of Los Angeles, Calif., and formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away March 15, 2014, of complications due to pneumonia.
He was born in Celina to Lionel "Babe" and Jeanette Niblick Beams, who are deceased.
He attended Celina Immaculate Conception grade school and high school before attending The Ohio State University. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves. He worked for General Motors for several years before marrying Susan Schnarre of St. Marys.
In 1968, Frank and Susan moved to Rochester, N.Y., to work for Mersman Tables of Celina, as the company's representative. He was promoted three years later to Iowa, where he worked and lived until retiring as a sales rep for the Hooker Furniture Company. He moved to Los Angeles in 2008 to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
He was beloved by his many work associates, friends and relatives. He always had a joke at the ready and was often the life of the party.
He is survived by sons, Christopher (Elizabeth) Beams, Los Angeles, and Ryan (Rhonda) Beams, Oakhurst, Calif., and three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church, Celina. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Celina, with graveside military rites by the Celina Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5713 and American Legion Post 210.
Calling is 3-7 p.m. Friday and 9-9:45 a.m. Saturday at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home, Celina.
A memorial service also will be held 5:30-9 p.m. Tuesday at Nick's Bar and Grille in Des Moines, Iowa.
