Hog virus infects U.S. swine population causing tighter supplies

Consumers will soon pay more at the grocery store for bacon and other pork products due to a virus that has infected the U.S. swine population.
Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus - first detected in the U.S. about a year ago - has been diagnosed in local hogs. It causes diarrhea, vomiting and dehydration and is almost 100 percent fatal to piglets younger than 7 days old. The virus also sickens older hogs, but their survival rate is high. [More]

Crappie fishing on Grand Lake is the best it has been in years, according to avid anglers.
