Paul Nieport
Paul J. Nieport, 75, Versailles, passed away at 10:43 p.m. Aug. 5, 2014, at Kindred Hospital, Dayton.
He was born Nov. 3, 1938, in Versailles, to Ferdinand H. and Frances C. Hartings Nieport. On Nov. 6, 1965, he married Marsha L. Drake, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Brenda S. (David) Petitjean, Fort Recovery, and Anita K. (Steven) Rutschilling, Yorkshire; five grandchildren, Adam (fiancée Shayna) Petitjean, Kyle Petitjean, Alan Petitjean, Elizabeth Rutschilling and Amber Rutschilling; a brother, Walter (Vivian) Nieport, Greenville; three sisters, Irene Jones, New Weston, Mary Wendeln, Fort Loramie, and Rosella (Edward) McClurg, Celina; a brother-in-law, Bob Gerling, Versailles; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a sister, Rita S. Gerling; a sister-in-law, Martha King Nieport; and brothers-in-law, Paul Jones and John Wendeln.
He started working for Harvey Hole Mack in Versailles and then became a self-employed mechanic for 11 years. He also served as a school bus driver for Versailles Schools for 20 years and then worked at Fullenkamp Trailer Sales, Frenchtown.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Frenchtown; St. Denis Knights of Columbus, Versailles; Greenville Fraternal Order of Eagles; Darke County Plowing Association; Ohio Plowing Association; National Plowing Association; Silver King Tractor Club; and Power of the Past. He was owner of the Average Joe's Go-Kart Racing Team.
A Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Denis Catholic Church, Versailles, the Rev. James Simons officiating. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery, Versailles.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles. A prayer service will be conducted by the Knights of Columbus on Friday evening at the funeral home.
