CELINA - Senior Night for the Celina girls soccer team was a successful night as well as an abundant night as the Bulldogs scored five goals in each half to pick up a 10-0 win over Kenton in Western Buckeye League action at the soccer stadium.
The win moves Celina to 6-2-4 on the season and 5-1-1 in WBL play. The Wildcats drop to 4-11-0 and 1-7-0
All three seniors that played, Bekah Carr, Mahaley Durbin and Elyssa Sheriff, scored at least one goal in the match. The fourth senior, Morgan Beatty, was inactive due to injury.
"It was just a good night for (the seniors)," Celina coach Calvin Freeman said. "The night is dedicated to them. It was nice to see them come through and get a chance to score and have fun doing it."
Carr started the scoring 10 minutes into the match thanks to a Maddie Ross assist. Forty-five seconds later, Mackenzie Moorman scored to make it 2-0. Durbin made it 3-0 at the halfway point of the first half.
Kendall Gilmore and Alyssa Cisco wrapped up the first half scoring with a pair goals within a span on 56 seconds. Celina took nine shots on goal and had nine corner kicks in the first half.
Heather Heiby started the second half scoring for Celina with a goal at the 33:41 mark. Caelyn Reinke scored with 27 1/2 minutes to play and Carr added her second goal of the night with 13 1/2 minutes left.
Sheriff, who had several chances to score a goal earlier in the match, earned her Senior Night goal with 5:42 left to play. Carr finished the night with her third goal of the match with 3:45 to play.
"We created a lot of opportunities or the score to be what it was," said Freeman, whose squad had 18 shots on goal for the match. "Take nothing away from Kenton, the girls played hard and played for the seniors. It was nice to see them as a team to play behind (the seniors) and support them. It's a good game for us all the way around."
The Celina defense shut down Kenton, holding them to no shots on goal or corner kicks in the match.
The Bulldogs return to action Thursday, hosting across-the-lake and WBL rival St. Marys in a rescheduled match.
