Ted Endel
Ted Lewis Endel Sr., 84, St. Marys died at 1:15 p.m. Sept. 30, 2014, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
He was born July 29, 1930, in Toledo, to Clifford F. and Ruth Mae Barker Endel. On March 5, 1955, he married Marjorie Joan Johnson, who survives in St. Marys.
Also surviving are four children, Bonnie L. (Tim) Binkley, Celina, Becky Lee Endel, Floresville, Texas, Barbara L. (Mirjam Dekker) Endel, PhD., Mainesville, and Ted L. (Kelly S.) Endel, Waynesfield; five grandchildren, Tim Binkley Jr., Mark Allen, Lydia Endel-McCoy, Dr. Doug Endel and Jenny N. Burgoon; eight great-grandchildren, Logan, Hannah, Taylor and Ben Binkley, Austin Burgoon, Parker Endel, Abby Burgoon and Campbell Endel; and three brothers, Ron Oder, Bob Carman and Chuck Carman.
Deceased are two brothers, Dick Oder and Carl Carman Jr.
He grew up in Harrod and served 20-plus years in the U.S. Army during post World War II in Japan, with the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict, and as a chief of the Hawk Missile Battalion during the Vietnam War. He then retired to Dover, Tenn., where he spent the next 15 years involved in the community and volunteering.
He was a member of the Fort Donnelson Memorial United Methodist Church and a lifelong member of the VFW. He had a terrific sense of humor and always enjoyed a good joke. He also was an avid fisherman. He especially enjoyed raising his family and being a family man.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta, the Rev. Jean Horn officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Branch Cemetery, Waynesfield, where military rites will be performed by VFW Post 9289.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
