Dr. Richard Dobbins
Dr. Richard "Dick" Lawrence Dobbins, 81, St. Marys, passed away on Feb. 24, 2015, at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater.
He was born Dec. 12, 1933, in Jackson, to the late Lawrence and Alice (Essman) Dobbins. On Dec. 27, 1955, in Cincinnati, he married Lois Ann Reese, who is deceased.
Surviving are four children, Michael and Jane (Ouellette) Dobbins, Lebanon, Ind., Stephen and Lisa (Collins) Dobbins, Silver Spring, Md., Katherine and Larry Crouch, Fort Worth, Texas, and Antoinette Dobbins, Columbus; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Alan, and sister-in-law, Ann Dobbins, Columbus; nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ilona Zizelman and Craig Meyer, both of Rockford.
Also deceased are a daughter, Kimberly Ann LaCourse; a granddaughter, Allyson LaCourse; and a brother, Leonard Dobbins.
Richard was a graduate of St. Charles Preparatory School in Columbus. He graduated from the University of Dayton and then entered medical school at the University of Cincinnati. After his internship in Detroit and his residency in Columbus, he entered the United States Air Force, where he served his country as a flight surgeon.
After leaving the service, the family moved back to Ohio and settled in Celina, and he entered into private practice. He eventually moved his practice to Coldwater where he became a dedicated family practice physician, caring for his patients "from cradle to grave." He was proud to have delivered more than 2,000 babies.
He was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater, serving as a lector and lay distributor. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Celina Knights of Columbus and the Celina American Legion.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
Richard was a kidney recipient and the family requests memorials be made to Donate Life.org or the American Diabetes Association.
