Board welcomes new principal, superintendent

By Jared Mauch
COLDWATER - The school board on Monday night welcomed the district's new superintendent and middle school principal.
Jason Wood was introduced as the new superintendent and Dan Pohlman as the middle school principal.
"We're really excited about being here. We're really excited about being involved with the school system and community. We're ready to make that commitment to the community and excited for the opportunity," Wood said.
Wood, 43, is a high school principal from the Franklin-Monroe Local School District in Pitsburg.
Superintendent Rich Seas thanked the school district for the opportunity to serve.
"I just want to say thanks to Coldwater schools. It's been very, very good to me. Coldwater schools have been great to my family and me professionally," he said.
He said Wood takes the reins starting July 1.
Pohlman also was recognized for coming back to the district after a few years at Celina City Schools. He served as Celina Intermediate and Elementary School principal since 2012 and had been a social studies teacher at Coldwater Middle School from 1997-2012.
The board at the June 9 meeting approved a two-year contract for Pohlman. His annual salary was later set at $79,000.
"I'm excited for the opportunity. I guess it's always been in the back of my mind that I could someday come back to Coldwater but I didn't expect the opportunity to come so quick. I'm excited to be here and excited to be a part of the middle school again," Pohlman said.
Board member Dan Rose asked Pohlman about advancing curriculum to the Chromebooks, which students use. Pohlman said companies are working on digital copies but thinks they had not anticipated the technology would advance so rapidly.

• approved the contract for Wood from July 1 through July 31, 2018, with a salary to be set at a later date.
