James Wimmers
James Edward Wimmers, Sr., age 74, of Lakeview, formerly of Marysville, died Sunday, July 12, 2015 at The Ohio State University Medical Center.
Known for his passionate service to others, he was deeply involved with his family, his church and his community. A chemical engineer, he retired from Nestle Research and Development after 37 years at the White Plains, NY, Sunbury, OH and Marysville, OH plants.
He was a former member of Marysville City Council, the City of Marysville Planning Commission and Marysville School Board. He was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Russells Point, where he served on parish council and was head of finance.
He was a former member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where he was head of the finance committee for 13 years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent DePaul and Lakeview Moose Lodge and was a former member of Russells Point Chamber of Commerce.
He was a 1958 graduate of Coldwater High School, received a bachelor's degree in 1962 in chemical engineering from the University of Dayton and attended graduate school at Lehigh University.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, golfing, softball and bowling and was a former little league baseball coach. He will be remembered for his unwavering devotion and dedication to his family and how he maintained the joy of the Christmas spirit year around.
He was born September 21, 1940 in Celina, Ohio to the late Richard Louis and Charlotte Marie Faller Wimmers.
He was also preceded in death in 1976 by an infant daughter, Maria Ann Wimmers; and his brother, Richard Louis Wimmers, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Darlene "Dee" Payton Wimmers, whom he married August 11, 1962 at Ascension Catholic Church in Kettering; eight children, Tony (Joyce) Wimmers of Marysville, Laura (Doug) Smith of Dublin, Lisa Watkins of Marysville, Jim (Betsy) Wimmers, Jr. of Marysville, Luke (Cheri) Wimmers of Marysville, Mandy (Andy) Early of Brookville, Adam (Megan) Wimmers of Plain City and Ben (Jeanette) Wimmers of Marysville; 25 grandchildren Elizabeth (Jerry) Burns, Charlotte Wimmers, John (Alisha) Wimmers, Elle Smith, JB Smith, KyLee (Jake) McCombs, Taylor Watkins, Morgan Watkins, Macey Watkins, Cory (Kelli) James, Drew (Chelsey) James, Whitney Wimmers, Molly Wimmers, Gabby Wimmers, Brynn Wimmers, Noah Wimmers, Olivia Early, Jacob Early, Isaiah Early, Hannah Early, Josiah Early, Levi Early, Logan Wimmers, Landon Wimmers and Lexie Wimmers; great-grandchildren, Emily, Jesse, Colin, Ryan, Lincoln, Owen, Adelynn, Avery and Kamdon; brothers-and sisters-in-law, John Payton, Larry (Becky) Payton, Ron (Norma) Payton, Cheryl (Rick) Schirtzinger, Lynn Presser and Kathy Buckley; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends, including close friends, Ken and Cathy Weaver of Florida.
The family will receive friends 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Underwood Funeral Home, 703 East Fifth Street, Marysville. The Holy Rosary will be recited following the calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Russells Point. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery in Marysville.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul.
