Deadly weekend claims 3 area lives

NEW BREMEN - A 19-year-old man who was slated to coach youth basketball later this year was killed early Sunday morning in a camper fire in a field along Southland Road.
Ben Homan of New Bremen was found dead inside the camper by St. Marys Township fire and EMS officials who responded to the scene following a 911 call placed at 1:12 a.m. The camper was fully engulfed when three fire trucks and 14 crew members arrived on scene, fire chief Chad Hicks told the newspaper. COLDWATER - A 24-year-old man was killed late Saturday morning when his motorcycle was struck by a sport utility vehicle on state Route 219, west of Gause Road in Butler Township.
Dustin A. Rutter, 321 E. College St., Coldwater, was taken by squad to Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater, where he later was pronounced dead. [More]

MERCER - A 42-year-old Wapakoneta man was killed just after midnight today when the pickup he was driving was struck by a semitrailer at the intersection of state Route 707 and U.S. 127.
Andrew J. Hughes was taken by a Rockford squad to Van Wert County Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. [More]
