J. Richard Clendenen
J. Richard "Dick" Clendenen, 90, a resident of Otterbein Saint Marys Retirement Community, and formerly of Celina, Ohio, Linton, Indiana, and Fort Wayne, Indiana, died at 1:45 A.M. Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at Otterbein Saint Marys.
He was born April 30, 1925, in Marion, Indiana, the son of Paul and Lydia (Glendening) Clendenen. He married Alberta Golliher on May 24, 1947, in Losantville, Indiana, and she preceded him in death on November 4, 2014.
He is survived by his children: Lois (Robert) Jay of Indianapolis; Rick (Glenna) Clendenen of Seattle, Washington; Carol (Kevin "Snuffy") Smith of Celina; Anita (Larry) Nida of North Palm Beach, Florida. He is survived by ten grandchildren: Tracia Ooink; Anthony Clendenen; Jon Jay; Juliet Nguyen; Josh Jay; Jennifer Bradley; Denise Smith; Kelsey Gundy; Andrew Nida; Brent Nida. He is also survived by his three great-grandchildren, Jordan Jay; Brooklyn Bradley and Erwin Nguyen. He is survived by his siblings, Donna Harshman of Vero Beach, Florida; Virginia Pedersen of Napa Valley, California and Jeanette Surface of El Paso, Texas.
Dick was a graduate of South Side High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He graduated from the General Electric Apprentice School and was an industrial engineer.
He served in the United States Marine Corps and retired from Huffy Manufacturing Company in Celina, where he served as manager of industrial engineering. He had previously worked at General Electric Company, and he had taught Motion Time Methods at various manufacturing facilities in the area.
He was a member of the former First Presbyterian Church in Saint Marys, and had attended the Church of Christ in Celina. He volunteered at Joint Twp District Memorial Hospital in Saint Marys.
He loved being outdoors and going boating, camping, playing in golf leagues, and hiking, but spending time with his family was the most important thing in Dick's life. He will be remembered for his warm, friendly personality.
Funeral rites will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 18, 2015, in the Meyer Community Chapel on the campus of Otterbein Saint Marys Retirement Community, Saint Marys, Ohio, the Reverend Vince Lavieri, officiant. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
Friends may call from 12:30 P.M. until the time of services on Sunday at Otterbein Saint Marys, where memorial gifts may be given to Otterbein Saint Marys Benevolence Fund.
