Alvin LaChey
Alvin F. LaChey, age 80, Anna, Ohio, passed away of natural causes at his residence early Friday morning, March 11, 2016.
He was born February 15, 1936, in Fort Loramie, Ohio, to the late Marcellus and Katherine (Borchers) LaChey. On May 4, 1984, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Fort Loramie, Al married Thelma (Gritzmaker) Zimpfer LaChey who survives.
Also surviving are three step children: Velma & Alan Pratt of Ocala, FL, Joseph & Deborah Zimpfer of Botkins and Arthur & Nancy Zimpfer of Botkins; eleven step grandchildren and twelve step great-grandchildren; four siblings: Marc H. & Elizabeth LaChey of Albuquerque, NM, Kenneth & JoAnn LaChey of St. Henry, Naomi Richards of Fort Loramie and Edward LaChey of Minster; sisters & brothers-in-law: Marjorie LaChey of Sidney, Caroline & David Counts of Botkins, Velma & Kay Billing of Anna and Lucille Gritzmaker of Wapakoneta.
He was preceded in death by one step son, William Zimpfer; three siblings: Lavern, John and Katherine LaChey; brothers & sisters-in-law, Waldon Richards, Barb LaChey, Orrin Gritzmaker and Ruth Davidson.
A 1954 graduate of Fort Loramie High school, Mr. LaChey served in the Ohio National Guard during the early 1950s. While in service, he received radar technician certification.
He was retired from the former Grimes/Midland Ross Aerospace Co. in Urbana and had been an electronics research and design technician. Many years ago Al serviced televisions and appliances at the former Fort Loramie Home Appliance store.
Al had been a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, the Fort Loramie American Legion Post #355 and the Minster Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #1397. Al was known to be an avid reader.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie with Rev. Steven Shoup presiding. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday 4:00 to 7:00 PM and Wednesday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.
Memorials may be made to the St. Michael Church Building Fund or charity of donor's choice.
