Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are possible. - Some locations that may experience flooding include... Larry Grier
Larry L. Grier, age 60, a resident of Portland passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis.
Larry was born on June 19, 1955 in Celina, Ohio, the son of the late Floyd and Helen (Hole) Grier.
He was a 1973 graduate of Parkway High School in Rockford and an alumni of Wright State University and The Ohio State University. He worked as a social worker at Meridian Health Services in Portland. He formerly worked as a social worker at Anthony Wayne Services in Fort Wayne, Jay County Hospital in Portland and Foundations Behavioral Health Services in Celina, Ohio.
Larry was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Portland where he attended Praise Café. He was a former member and past master of the Mercer County Pomona Grange and also a member of Unity Grange.
He was on the board of the Mercer/Auglaize County Big Brothers and Big Sisters for several years. He also served on the Mercer County Board of The Ohio State University Alumni Association.
He was a former member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Celina where he served as a youth counselor and in the Chapel Choir. He was a member of the Celina Masonic Lodge #241 F&AM and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was also active in the Jay County Civic Theater and Crying Baby Productions.
Survivors include: 2 brothers: Jim Grier (wife Lana) – Mendon, Ohio and Bill Grier (wife Cindy) – Mendon, Ohio. Larry served as a host to a foreign exchange student, Kai Vogel (wife Silke) – Kaulf-buren, Germany.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-2 p.m. at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 204 E. Arch St., Portland, Indiana 47371.
A masonic service will start at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the church and funeral services will follow with Reverend Tim Dilley and Greg Rittenhouse officiating.
Memorials may be directed towards the Jay County Civic Theater or Asbury United Methodist Church.
Arrangements entrusted to the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.
