Rosemary Horn
Rosemary Horn, 93, St. Marys, OH died Tuesday July 5, 2016 at her residence.
She was born October 21, 1922, in St. Marys, OH to William and Katherine (Wilmes) Makley. On February 23, 1952, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, she married Lowell "Bud" Horn, who died March 17, 1975.
Survivors include: daughter Donna (Ned) Burris of St. Marys, OH; daughter Kristine (Gary) Vondenhuevel of St. Marys, OH; son Steve (Gwen) Horn of St. Marys, OH; daughter Patricia (Robert) Thomes of St. Marys, OH; son-in-law Jeff (Julie) Ahlers of St. Marys, OH; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother Andrew (Irene) Makley of St. Marys, OH.
Preceded in death by: parents William and Katherine Makley; husband Lowell "Bud" Horn; daughter Kathy Ahlers; sister Wilma "Weedie" Derr; brother Clarence "Snuffy" Makley; brother Carl "Shorty" Makley; brother George Makley; brother William "Bill" Makley.
She was a graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School (Class of 1940).
She retired from Kogge Plumbing & Heating Co. in St. Marys, and she considered the Kogge family to be her own. She also had worked at G.C. Murphy Co. and St. Marys Woolen Mill, where she made many friends and had work experiences that became great stories.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and its altar-rosary sodality. Faith and family were the cornerstones of Rosemary's life. Rosary beads were always with her, as well as a small statue of St. Joseph.
Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest source of joy and she spent as much time as possible with them. A true matriarch, she guided her family through good times and bad, leaving a legacy of many cherished memories.
An amateur photographer, she had a darkroom in her closet while growing up. Her home was decorated with numerous family photos. She also enjoyed working in her yard and playing games of cards, especially double solitaire.
Rosemary will be remembered as a strong, loving, selfless and giving woman who was dearly loved by the members of her extended family.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled to begin 10:30 a.m. Saturday July 9, 2016 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church 511 E. Spring Street in St. Marys, with the Rev. Barry Stechschulte, celebrant. Burial will follow at the Gethsemane Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday and 9:00-10:00 a.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West Chapel) in St. Marys.
Memorial contributions may be directed to either Holy Rosary Catholic Church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
