Mary Ann Wendel
Mary Ann Wendel, 76, Fort Recovery, Ohio, died on September 5, 2016, at Briarwood Village, Coldwater, Ohio. She was born August 13, 1940, in Cranberry, OH, to the late Edmund Fiely and Margaret (Quinter) Fiely. On October 3, 1959, she married the late John Wendel, who died October 23, 2014.
Surviving are four children, Pam (Dave) Hicks of Fort Recovery, Gary (Margie) Wendel of Fort Recovery, Randy "Otis" Wendel and (Leslie Stewart) of Fort Recovery, and Joyce (Dan) Wilker of Fort Recovery; nine grandchildren, Megan (Chris) Steinberg, Rachel (Joe) Taylor, Derek (Ashley) Wendel, Amber (Craig) Fullenkamp, Britany Wendel and (Cory Adams), Taylor Wendel, Brandon (Amanda) Wilker, Aaron (Kendra) Wilker and Courtney Wilker; five great grandchildren; three siblings, Mary Lou Schulze of St. Henry, Irene (Bud) Brussell of New Bremen and Rita (Bob) Boeke of Algonquin, IL; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Fiely of St. Henry; in-laws, Oliver (Ruth) Wendel of Coldwater; Annie (Willie) Lochtefeld of Fort Recovery, Mary Jean (John) Evers of Fort Recovery and Bob Wendel of New Weston; and a niece whom they cared for, Wanda (Jon) Fields, New Weston.
She was also preceded in death by siblings, Stanley (Theresa) Fiely, Rosie (LeRoy) Obringer, Arthur Fiely and an infant brother, Bobbie; brother-in-law, Elmer Schulze; and an in-law, Tom (Lisa) Wendel.
She was a 1958 graduate of St. Henry High School. Mary Ann, along with her husband, John, owned and operated Wendel Poultry Service until their retirement in 1997.
Mary Ann was active in the Fort Recovery Ambassador Club and Jubilee Committee for many years operating lunch stands during the tractor pulls and annual Jubilee Picnic. She was inducted into the Fort Recovery Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame in 2004 and served as grand marshal of the Jubilee in 2007. She was a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery, OH, church's Altar Sodality and served on the funeral luncheon committee for many years.
She was an avid bowler for over 30 years, enjoyed crocheting and collecting antique cars with her husband and being with her grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Friday, September 9, 2016 at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, with Fr. Ned Brown officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2:00 pm-8:00 pm Thursday and 9:00 am-10:00 am Friday at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, Ohio.
