Doris Durnell
Doris Jean (Inderrieden) Durnell of St. Marys and Coldwater, Ohio, passed away at Briarwood Village, Coldwater, Ohio, on November 1, 2016, at the age of 88.
She was born March 27, 1928, in Fort Loramie, Ohio, to Leo William and Eleanora Rose (Winner) Inderrieden, who preceded her in death. She was united in marriage on May 4, 1955, to Thomas Alan Durnell, who preceded her in death, and on April 14, 2009, to Donald Desch, who survives her in Coldwater, Ohio.
She is also survived by six children, Catherine (Peter) Cramton of Bethesda, Maryland, Thomas Durnell of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Colleen (Scott) Gilmour of Dallas, Texas, John (Suzanne) Durnell of Palos Verdes Estates, California, Maureen Durnell of Seal Beach, California, and Bridget (Lawrence) Mauro of Palos Verdes Estates, California; her sister, Josephine Grilliot of Delphos, OH: brother, Thomas (Mary Ellen) Inderrieden of Aiken, SC, and a sister-in- law, Betty Durnell of St. Marys, OH; and seven grandchildren, John, Jacob and Alexandria Durnell, Alexander and Sophie Gilmour, and Grace and Sarah Mauro.
In addition to Thomas Durnell, she was preceded in death by two brothers-in- law, Paul Grilliot and David Durnell.
Mrs. Durnell graduated as valedictorian from Fort Loramie High School and received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, magna cum laude, and Certificate in Medical Technology from Mount Saint Joseph University. She worked as a Medical Technologist at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital, Coldwater, and then at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital (JTDMH) where she was the Laboratory Administrator.
After retiring from JTDMH, Mrs. Durnell began working with her first husband, Thomas Durnell, at their business, Durnell & Sons Jewelers, and became a Certified Gemologist.
Mrs. Durnell was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, where she participated in the Legion of Mary, Ladies' Altar Society, and Two Hearts. She was also involved with the St. Marys Sister City Organization.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at which the Rev. Barry Stechschulte will officiate. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West Chapel) in St. Marys.
