Susan Heyne
Susan Diane (Cole) Heyne, age 66, formerly of Celina, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2016.
She was a graduate of Celina High School in 1969. Her most important job, and her favorite, was being a full-time Mom during most of the years her daughters were at home. Before and after that time, she held various computer operator and administrative office positions at The Reynolds and Reynolds Company, Centerville City Schools, Mancor (formerly Mark Concepts), and several other places. Then, in 2001, along with her husband, she became owner of the Ritter's Frozen Custard in Kettering, where she eventually joined her husband in a more than full-time position. She was "the sweet lady" who served a bunch of people, their sweet treats, for many years at Ritter's. Prior to Ritter's, she was a member of St. Leonard Faith Community in Centerville, where she sang in their choir, was a part of their Liturgical Dance Ministry, and a major volunteer for many of their social events. More recently, she attended Southbrook Christian Church in Miamisburg.
Since Susan's passing, the overwhelmingly most common observation about her, coming from family and friends and being commented about, points to her "contagious laugh and smile." So true.
Besides playing some couples tennis with her husband at Black Oak Swim Club, back in the day, most of Susan's hobbies centered around making something, or shopping for something, for her children and grandchildren. She dearly loved walking with her neighbor and close friend, Joanie. While her daughters were growing up at home, Susan was "Miss Volunteer" at their schools, for their sports teams, Girl Scouts, and at Black Oak Swim Club.
Preceded in death by her parents, Robert E. and Hazel M. (Kettring) Cole.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Donald J.; daughter Melissa Stevenson and her husband Drew, of Iowa, who are parents to five of Susan's Grandchildren (Emma, Luke, Hazel, Aria and Gabe),; daughter Erin Wloszek and her husband Jacob, of Cincy, who are parents to Susan's other Grandchild, Morgan. Also survived by her brothers Bob Cole, from Troy, Tom Cole, from Montezuma,; and sister, Stacy (Cole) Sanders, from Celina,; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-5:00 PM on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 21, 2016 at Southbrook Christian Church, 9095 Washington Church Road, Miamisburg, with Susan's son-in-law, Drew Stevenson officiating. A private graveside service will be held at Swamp College Cemetery following the service at Southbrook.
The family would like to express our thanks to Susan's two largest caregivers the past almost 2 years while fighting this illness, her Mother-In-Law, Rita, of Celina, who lived with Susan and Don during much of this time to help, and her Sister-In-Law, Mindy, of Centerville, who would find a way amidst a crazy schedule of her own to help in so many ways at Susan's home, and at Ritter's doing the flower gardening Susan had always done. Also, thanks to Hospice of Dayton who cared for Susan so graciously for the last few days of her life in this world.
If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to Hospice of Dayton.
