COLDWATER - A woman who reportedly fled the scene after hitting a female student with her car was arrested and charged Thursday, according to a police news release.
Suzanne Michelle Gibson, 47, faces a fourth-degree felony charge of vehicular assault and fifth-degree felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident, the release says. She reportedly was charged Thursday afternoon by a Mercer County Grand Jury.
The victim, who was on her way to high school when she was struck, was reportedly taken by squad to Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater.
The incident occurred just after 8 a.m. Thursday along North Second Street near the railroad tracks in front of Coldwater High School, the report said. The girl reportedly was on the sidewalk when struck by a northbound car.
Eyewitnesses described the vehicle to Coldwater police officers who were able to locate the vehicle and Gibson at 554 S. Second St., the release says.
Coldwater Police obtained search warrants for the vehicle and for blood and urine samples from Gibson, according to the release. The case reportedly was presented to the grand jury Thursday afternoon, resulting in the indictments.
