Ruth Stoner
Ruth E. (Piper) Stoner, age 95, of Celina, passed away Friday, February 10, 2017 at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
She was born on April 25, 1921 in Celina, to Harold L. & Esta E. (Fisher) Baker. Ruth married Lyndel Piper on January 1, 1943, and he preceded her in death on February 22, 1984. She then married Willard R. Stoner in May of 1987, and he passed away in January of 1996.
Ruth is survived by her Daughter and Son: Lynda (Forest) Yocum of Baltimore, Ohio and Tom (Cindy) Piper of Celina, Grandchildren: Marynda (Ryan) Eich, Sarah Piper (Nathan Young), Megan (Evan) Witkowski, and Erynn Piper, and Great-Grandchildren: Keegyn & Brynlee Eich, Abigail Witkowski, and Riona Piper.
She was preceded in death by her Sisters: Pauline (Cecil) Shank and Roberta (Virgil) Tolbert.
Ruth attended Celina High school, then transferred to Neptune High School, where she graduated as Valedictorian of her class.
A homemaker, Ruth had worked at Celina Insurance Group, National Finance, and JC Penney, all in Celina. For many years, she was the office manager and trip coordinator for Mercer County Council on Aging-Senior Citizens.
Ruth was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Grand Lake United Methodist Church, and an active volunteer for various church functions. She both attended and taught Bible study classes at the church. She was also a member of the Shakespeare Club in Celina.
Favorite pastimes for Ruth were crocheting, gardening, and tending to her plants. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 16, at Grand Lake United Methodist Church (St. Paul's Campus-Celina), with Rev. Diane Mendelson officiating. Burial will follow at North Grove Cemetery, Celina.
Calling Hours are 4:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 15, at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina, and an hour prior to time of services on Thursday, at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Lake United Methodist Women's Group, or the Cancer Association of Mercer County.
