Richard Kreischer
Richard C. "Dick" Kreischer, Sr., 93, of rural Van Wert Co., died Saturday, February 11, 2017, at 12:15 PM at Van Wert Manor.
He was born June 17, 1923, in Wren the son of Arthur and Leila (Balyeat) Kreischer. On May 7, 1947 he married the former Etta May Reed who preceded him in death Jan. 31, 2012.
He is survived by his children Yevonne (Jim) Chiapetta of Perrysburg, OH - Vicki (Stan) Laux of Celina, OH - Richard C. "Rick" (Suzanne) Kreischer, Jr. of Van Wert - Grandchildren Lisa (Ross) Bowe of Ypsilanti, MI - Jon (Heather) Chiapetta of Sylvania, Ohio - Stephen "Kit" (Ashley) Laux of Celina, OH - Christopher "Corky" (Tiffany) Laux, Omaha, Nebraska, Zachary (Erika) Kreischer, Van Wert, MichelleĀ (CJ) Kreischer Spencer, Fishers, IN - Great-grandchildren Desmond and Morrison Chiapetta, Cadence, Carrington and Nina Laux - Sebastian and Brody Richard Kreischer- Sister Janet Macleod, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA.
Preceded in death by brothers Robert and Bill Kreischer and sisters Mildred Kreischer and Helen Williams.
Dick was a member of St. Paul's Reformed Church of America. He was a 1941 graduate of Van Wert High School and a member of the Van Wert Law Enforcement Association and the Van Wert Co. Sheriff's Auxiliary.
He was a former employee of the Lima Tank Depot, Arthur Brooks nursery/chive farm where chives were grown for the former Borden's Van Wert plant - Dispatcher for the Van Wert Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol and then was a weight master and snow plow driver for Ohio Department of Transportation. As an ODOT employee he was stranded on US 224 East while snow plowing during the blizzard of 1978. He then was employed by the Ohio State Highway Patrol as a load limit inspector from which he retired.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 at St. Paul's Reformed Church with Rev. Chad Strabbing officiating.
Friends may call at Brickner Funeral Home, Van Wert, from 2:00 PM-7:00 PM Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, and at the Church on Friday 1 hour prior to Services.
Preferred Memorials are to St. Paul's Reformed Church of America and to Van Wert Co. Health Professionals Hospice.
