Cavalier wrestlers finish second

Coldwater advanced nine wrestlers to district and finished second at the Division III sectional tournament held this past weekend at Herr Gymnasium on the campus of Lima Central Catholic.
The Cavaliers finished with 167 1/2 points, 10 1/2 points behind sectional champion Ottawa-Glandorf. Allen East was third. Fellow MAC member St. John's finished 10th and Parkway was 12th.
Thomas Schwieterman captured the lone championship of the day for Coldwater in pinning Brennan Davies of Allen East to win the 285-pound championship. Zach Klosterman finished second at 220 pounds after Patrick Henry's Kent Petersen won a 14-2 major decision.
Winning third-place matches to move on to district for the Cavaliers were Brian Chmielewski (113 pounds), Koby Boggs (120), Justin Sigler (126), Tyler Hemmelgarn (170) and Desmond Brown (195). Finishing fourth and earning the final advancement spots in their weight classes were Seth Obringer (152) and Zach Meyer (182). Placing fifth and serving as the alternate should someone in the top four not be able to participate were Reece Thomas (145) and Andrew Meyer (160).
Parkway, in its first year of varsity wrestling, will send two wrestlers to the district tournament. Tristen McKee finished fourth at 106 pounds and Preston Browning was fourth at 126.
The qualifiers travel to Hobart Arena in Troy on Friday for the start of the district tournament. The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the state tournament.
Division II Napoleon Sectional
Celina and St. Marys will each send two wrestlers to the Mansfield district tournament after qualifying at the "Grand Canyon" in Napoleon.
Bulldog Austin Hines finished third in the 145-pound class after defeating Collin Mell of Bath, 4-3, Logan Muhlenkamp also advanced by placing fourth at 160 after losing 2-1 to Emiliano Gonzales of Defiance. Aaron Cole will serve as the alternate at 195 pounds after finishing fifth with an 11-5 win over Carter Butler of Bath.
The Roughriders will be represented at district by Tyler Miller, who finished third at 182 pounds with an 8-5 win over Elida's Alan Schrader, and by Clayton Drummond, who placed fourth at 106 pounds after a 9-6 loss to Defiance's Tristan Villarreal. Tommy Mabry (145) and Patrick Day (152) finished fifth in their weight classes to earn the right as alternates.
St. Marys finished seventh in the team standings with 85 1/2 points. Celina was ninth with 38 points. Wauseon easily won the sectional team title with 286 1/2 points. Defiance was second with 192 1/2 points with Wapakoneta third with 176.
