Michael Barhorst
Michael J. Barhorst age 77 of Fort Loramie, Ohio died at 3:05 AM on March 1, 2017 at his home at Hickory Hill Lakes, Ft. Loramie, Ohio.
He was born on June 25, 1939 in Fort Loramie, Ohio to the late Leo "Spin" and Mary (Schwartz) Barhorst. He married Mary Jo Budde on June 25, 1958 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, Ohio and she survives in Fort Loramie.
He is also survived by children: Tony & Pam Barhorst, Brookville, Ohio, Brian & Ulli Barhorst, Honolulu, HI, Mark & Kathy Barhorst, Fort Loramie, Scott & Jill Barhorst, Tipp City, Paul & Shelly Barhorst, Fort Loramie, 8 grandchildren: Jack, Keith, Anna, Claudia, Taylor, Elizabeth "Liz", Maria and Ben, 2 step grandchildren: Jessie & Jamie, 1 step great grandson Carter Lee, 4 great grandchildren: Austin, Dexter, Clay and Callie Rose, brothers & sisters: Norman & Janet Barhorst, Fort Loramie, Sam & Patty Barhorst, Fort Loramie, Nelson & Joyce Barhorst, Fort Loramie, Kathy & Bud Link, Celina, in-laws Joe & Kathy Budde & Tony & Lucy Budde both of Seattle, WA and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by son James "Jimmy" Leo Barhorst, brother John & Ruth Barhorst, sister Barbara Barhorst and sister-in-law Ann Barhorst.
Mike was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Newport. He attended Fort Loramie Schools, and was a co-owner and retired from Springcreek Gravel.
He was also the founder with his wife Mary Jo of Hickory Hill Lakes Campground in 1971 and of Country Concert at Hickory Hill Lakes in 1981. He was a member of the Newport Sportsman Club, a social member of the Fort Loramie American Legion and enjoyed "Maurer Power Hour" at Al's.
He enjoyed racing and was passionate about his work, country music and moving dirt. He loved spending time with his family and traveling in their motor home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Fort Loramie, Ohio. Burial will follow in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery Newport.
Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, March 3 and from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 4.
