Edward Wilson
Edward S. Wilson, age 87, of Celina, OH, passed away at 3:55 pm on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at the Gardens of Celina.
He was born December 23, 1929 in Leominster, Massachusetts to the late Alfred H. and Elizabeth (Savage) Wilson.
He graduated from Leominster High School and the University of Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Science degree in Wild Life Management. Upon graduation he entered the U.S. Army as a medical specialist with a MASH Unit. While stationed in Germany he worked in a blood bank and was co-author of a book The ABO's of Blood Banking.
Returning to the states he began a career in Home Office Underwriting. While at Celina Group he was president of the Ohio State Office of Home Underwriters.
During his life he was active in the Boy Scouts both as an assistant troop leader and as Chairman of the Eagle Board of Review. He was also an official of the USA Swimming Committee.
Music was an important part of his life. As a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church he participated in their dinner theaters and also sang solos in the Messiah. He was a founding member of the Sound Waves Barbershop Chorus, serving at various times as its president, director and quartet member.
Socially Ted was a charter member of The Dirty Dozen, a duplicate bridge group, and the Tulip Group.
After retirement from Celina Insurance Group he became an active volunteer in Patient Therapy and Patient Services at Mercer Health Hospital, Coldwater, with over 2000 hours of service.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Guettler; three sons, Todd (Carel) Wilson, Celina, Dale (Linda) Wilson, New Haven, IN, and Lee (Linda) Wilson, San Antonio, TX; a daughter, Andrea (John) Hardison, Alexandria, VA; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Memorial services will begin at 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 22, 2017, in the Grand Lake United Methodist Church, Celina, with Rev. Diane Mendelson officiating. Military honors will follow his memorial service at the church and will be performed by the Celina American Legion Post 210 and the Celina V. F. W. Post 5713.
The family will receive friends from 1–3 pm prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Music in the Park, the Mercer County Civic Foundation and/or Community Health Professionals, Adult Day Care.
