Mendon Fire Department and Rockford Fire Department personnel on Monday put out the embers of a barn fire. They responded to a call reporting a barn fire at 4:46 p.m. at 8904 Mercer-Van Wert County Line Road, Venedocia. Mendon Fire Chief Daryl Etgen said officials believe the fire started from an open burn that spread to the barn. Etgen was unsure where the property owners were at the time of the fire, as nearby neighbors called the department. The barn, which contained equipment but no animals, was deemed a total loss.
