Cavaliers, Riders win conference titles

The Coldwater boys' and St. Marys girls' bowling teams captured conference championships as the West Ohio High School Bowling Conference held its divisional playoffs on Saturday at Westgate Lanes in Lima.
The format consisted of North Division teams playing South Division teams with matchups based on the teams' finishes in divisional play.
In the boys' final, Coldwater, the South Division champ, defeated North Division champion Shawnee 3,047 to 2,783. Cavalier Jason Wenning helped his team's cause by bowling the top game of the day with a 279. Michael Schoenherr added a 235.
Among the other top games for the boys were St. Henry's Trey Buehler with a 278, Celina's Jordan Weis with a 277 and teammate Nate Langenkamp with a 246.
In the girls' division, North Division champ St. Marys completed a 17-0 regular season with a 2,501-2,370 win over South Division winner Versailles. Jamie Dunlap bowled a 205 to pace the Roughriders.
Madison Doseck of Wapakoneta bowled the top game for the ladies with a 238. Coldwater's Lauren Wenning added a 234 game.
The postseason begins for Division II teams this week with sectional action as the St. Marys boys begin defense of their state title on Friday at 5 p.m. at Community Lanes in Minster. The girls, with defending state champion Coldwater, bowl at Community Lanes starting at noon.
The Division I sectional tournament takes place Feb. 23-24 in Lima at 20th Century Lanes.
