Dogs, Riders claim titles

The Celina boys bowling team captured the Western Buckeye League boys' bowling tournament title on Thursday at Hillcrest Lanes in Kenton.
The Bulldogs totaled a team score of 3,948 for the win. Wapakoneta took second (3,830) and St. Marys third (3,760).
Celina shared the overall league title with St. Marys, which was the co-champion during the regular season with Shawnee with an 8-1 record
Celina's Cole Cisco earned WBL Player of the Year after having finished the season with a 224.05 average.
Nate Langenkamp was the second-highest for the day with a 621 series and Cisco was third overall with a 603. Defiance's Alex Coble was the tournament medalist with a 629 series.
Langenkamp, Cisco, and Kolyn Wiehe all earned first first team WBL honors. Celina's Jordan Weis earned second team WBL honors and Parker Maurer was honorable mention.
Wapakoneta won the girls' tournament with St. Marys finishing second. The Redskins and Roughriders share the overall championship after the Roughriders won the regular season. Celina finished sixth.
St. Marys Jami Dunlap was tournament medalist with a 582 series. Shawnee's Dayle Adrich was named the Girls' Bowler of the Year.
No information for the All-WBL girls' bowling team was provided.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Abby Jackson's hoop-and-harm, three-point play with 1.1 seconds left lifted Van Wert past Celina at the Cougar Den.
Jackson totaled a game-high 13 points as the Cougars overcame a double-digit halftime deficit to keep the Bulldogs winless in Western Buckeye League play. Cassie Priest also scored 13 for Van Wert.
Van Wert improved to 8-14 and 3-6 in league play. Celina dropped to 2-20 and 0-9.
Celina's Makenna Klingshirn shared game-high honors with 13 points. Lauren Jackson contributed 12 points.
The Bulldogs open up Division II district play on Wednesday, traveling to Leipsic to face Bryan.

Defiance held off St. Marys in a close contest all the way to the end at Murotech Court.
Makenna Mele scored a game-high 19 for the Roughriders, who trailed 26-23 after three quarters before getting outscored 10-7 in the fourth.
Clare Caywood had nine points for St. Marys (9-13, 3-6 WBL).
Emily Poling scored 12 to pace Defiance (17-5, 7-2 WBL).
The Roughriders open up tournament play on Tuesday, traveling to Spencerville to face Shawnee at 6:15 p.m.

Jane Homan scored 14 points and Hanna Tenkman added 10 as the Cardinals finished off MAC play with a win.
They led 20-5 after one quarter and 34-10 at the intermission. Nine different New Bremen players got in the scoring column.
New Bremen kicks off Division IV tournament play at Coldwater on Tuesday, taking on Waynesfield-Goshen at 6:15 p.m.
